What is a Lineworker Rodeo?

Michigan’s Cooperative and Municipal Lineworker Rodeo is proud to be the first of its kind in Northern Michigan, but it is certainly not an uncommon event in the United States and internationally.

Lineworker Rodeos bring together lineworkers and apprentices to compete in events to test their safety, speed and skills, build camaraderie in the brotherhood of electrical lineworkers, and raise awareness for the vital trade.

The 2019 Michigan Cooperative and Municipal Lineworker Rodeo will test lineworker and apprentices with team and individual events at the state-of-the-art Wolverine Power Cooperative Training Center in Lake City, Michigan.

To get a taste of what Lineworker Rodeos are, take a look at the video from the Gaff-n-Go Rodeo in Virginia.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does the event cost?
Registration is $400 per journeyman team and $100 per apprentice. Each volunteer provided by your utility is a $50 credit towards registration.  There is no cost to be a spectator.

What if my utility doesn’t have enough journeymen to field a team?
We will match you with another journeyman team in the area.  Additionally, apprentices may participate in the journeyman teams provided they remain on the ground.  They will not, however, be able to do both because they will be occurring at the same time.

I live close to Cadillac, do I need to come on Thursday night?
No, there will be registration Friday morning, too.

How do I practice for these events?
Click on the links under the events to see video demonstrations and event specifications.

Do I need to take a written test?
Yes, it will be part of the scoring for the event.  Results will not be made public.

I’d like to participate but not compete, what should I do?
This event will require 30+ lineman volunteers as judges.  Please consider volunteering!
